Marathon Training Starts

The Christmas holidays are over and now starts my marathon training. I downloaded a plan from the Runners World website that takes me up to the London Marathon date in April 2015. It has been a difficult start to training as I wasn’t too well over Christmas and have struggled to get out, as well as eating too much!

I have been doing a little bit of running over December but it has mostly been time for finishing work, planning Christmas and travelling about.  Confidence is not too high at the moment and I am feeling quite sluggish with my pace.  On the 29th December I was due to do a social run with club members – 17 miles. I wasn’t really feeling up to it but I wanted to get out so I headed out from home down to the Anton Way.

My aim was to run 4 miles but I took my vest and plenty of water in case I felt up to doing more. Once I got past the town and over to Mill Lake

I decided that I would push myself and make it to Upper Clatford. This part of the run is very pretty.

I managed 8.3 miles in the end. Every mile felt hard, but I did it which is the important thing. If you are running around Andover, this is a really lovely bit to try.  You can pick up the trail from behind the ASDA in Andover then head towards Upper Clatford. I took a detour to look around the lakes, which helped to up the mileage.

The next couple of weeks are about getting out there, even if I don’t feel like it. Letting my training catch up with me and trying to build some confidence throughout January. I know I can do this but mentally I just do not feel so sure right now.
