It is time I got back into some hill training! Yes, it’s hard work but we all know it pays off. Dan and I decided to try a long, steady hill in Charlton Down to get back into the swing of things. It’s still super warm in this evenings, tonight was registering 20 degrees. Still, if we can run up hills in this heat, it should be easier on cooler days…right?!
The hill we found was about 2.5 miles. You can then go a little further and onto a trail run that takes you towards Ibthorpe but it was super warm and dinner would be required before 10pm! This hill is slow and steady with a few steep bits, just to keep you focused. About half a mile before the top, I had to take a breather as my calf muscles were screaming a bit – they’re not used to this. I didn’t stop for too long and we continued up to the top of the hill which is just north of Pill Heath. Look at the sweat!
Due to Dan being the running machine he is, he was way ahead of me up the hill and, being good, he even looped back for me at the end. I certain have WADAC to thank for that little gem!
It was a good run and a nice introduction back into some needed hill sessions.
Finally, my Garmin told me I got a 5k PB – see, I said hills were good. 🙂
