For my birthday this year I was lucky enough to be treated to a break at Combe Grove. A hotel and spa just on the outskirts of Bath city centre.
The rooms are currently being redecorated but we had the opportunity to stay in one of the newly refurbished ones. A lovely little room overlooking Limpley Stoke Valley. It was so fresh, you still had a hint of paint in the air!
The only real downside to the rooms were the lack of mirrors outside of the bathroom – not ideal when you want to dry your hair and see what you’re doing. Other than that, they were well catered – tea, coffee, hot chocolate and water were all available. In the warmer months you can also take advantage of the outside table and chairs.
The place is very relaxing. The bedrooms and main area (for food, checking in etc) are separate buildings and it had a very casual and quiet pace when we stayed.
The fitness side is impressive. A gym, with a decent amount of equipment – including free weights, machines, cardio and mats. A swimming pool with a brilliant view, low lighting and loungers to relax. Finally – spa features such as an aquabed, sauna and steam room.
The food was some of the best I’ve eaten in a long time and really reasonably priced, given the care and attention to detail that had gone into it.
It was a fantastic day and night away. Everyone was really pleasant, we were well fed and feeling super relaxed by check-out. I hope to visit again soon.
