Last night I took part in the famous ‘Chip Shop Hill’ training session. Having only ever heard about it before and never tried it, I was clearly in for a treat. As you may have guessed from the name, it involved a hill…
About 16 of us ran from the club house over to the bottom of the hill (that happens to be right across from a local chip shop). The idea behind the session is to focus on pushing it down the hill, rather than up.
The session consists of 3 sets of of 5 minutes, running up and down the hill as many times as you can manage. You then get about a 60 – 90 second break and do it again.
We have some speedy members in our club – just as you see the top of the hill, the speedy pants are running down the other side! Still, its very sociable and everyone is (sort of) running together.
Annoyingly, on the second set I got a stitch (grrr) and as much as I tried to pretend it wasn’t there, it reminded me on the way down!
As my legs were feeling like jelly on the way down, I realised I still have a bit of work to do to increase my leg strength!
A great session with a good opportunity to push yourself and see what you’re made of! I’m looking forward to seeing an improvement the next time we run this.
So far it has been a lovely week of running, fingers crossed for a great day tomorrow… 11 miles of the Test Way.
