What a great way to kick-off the countdown to Christmas with some festivity in Winchester. Taking place at Winchester Cathedral, participants parade with their paper lanterns from the Cathedral and around the square in front, finishing on the green where a band is ready entertaining the crowds.
When we parked up, the car was registering 0 degrees, meaning a hot beverage was essential for all that standing around! By the time the parade has started, there was quite a crowd waiting to watch and see the creations the children (and adults!) had put together.
There were lots of different types of lanterns – simple shapes to famous film characters. Clearly, a great effort by all participants. After the parade has passed us, we headed to the Christmas Market for a quick browse and to get some hot chestnuts for the journey home. Yummy.
I decided to test out the handheld night scene option on my camera. As I didn’t have a tripod, the photos are not that sharp, but hopefully you get the idea!
